#CovidWedding - Twilight Wedding at U of A Botanical Gardens - Aga Khan
Updated: Feb 9
This year I want to feature some #covidweddings that happened in 2020 to share ideas and different styles of weddings you may not have considered before.
One of my favourite is totally this twilight wedding I helped my clients plan at the University of Alberta Botanical Gardens (UABG) last summer. At the time, UABG were promoting their evening picnics and stemming from their immense success, they created a package that allowed for existing and potentially new couples to consider having a private ceremony and reception in one place!
My clients, Stephanie and Hin were the first couple to have this style of wedding and it was due to the fact that they wanted their wedding on a Friday (Sept 4) given it landed on their 10th dating anniversary! The package included a picnic box per person, a succulent favour, a picnic blanket, a cake to cut and donuts (or cupcakes), and an amazing service team to help bring your vision to life!
Originally Stephanie and Hin were going to have a ceremony here followed by a reception at another venue, but due to the challenges of covid, they cancelled their original plans (in June 2020) and took a halt from planning. When this package came up, it was just the cherry on top for all their ideas to fall into place!
The couple love new experiences and are always up for a fun adventure. As such, they wanted their wedding to reflect this. From planning a scavenger hunt, to a paper boat decorating contest, the laughter and fun to be had with their guests was endless! The intentionality in planning also factored in guests that were not able to attend. Given the groom's family resided overseas, we opted for a live streaming option that allowed for the couple to see all the guests' faces in attendance rather than just a one way live stream. The couple even choreographed their first dance to follow immediately after the ceremony so the guests online could have more to watch and celebrate!
The evening ended with sparklers and a joyous memory for all those involved! I am hoping UABG brings this amazing option back this summer! The gardens are always so beautiful and I highly recommend a visit if you've never been.
